The HeartWell Institute presents the Mindfulness and Self-Compassion (MSC) online course. This program is offered by a trained MSC teacher and consists of 8 weeks of 2-hour classes and a 4-hour retreat.

The course is appropriate for those who want to learn about Mindfulness and Self-Compassion from the comfort of their home.

-
MSC combines the skills of mindfulness and self-compassion providing a powerful tool for emotional resilience.
-
Mindfulness is the first step in emotional healing and allows us to be able to reflect on and acknowledge our difficult thoughts and feelings (such as feeling inadequate, sad, angry, or confused) with a spirit of openness and curiosity.
-
Self-compassion cultivates learning to respond to these difficult thoughts and feelings with kindness, compassion, and understanding to calm and support ourselves when we are suffering.
-
Research has shown that self-compassion significantly improves emotional well-being, increases happiness, reduces anxiety and depression, and can even help us maintain healthy lifestyle habits, such as eating a proper diet and exercising. Being mindful and compassionate also leads to greater peace of mind and well-being in our daily lives.
-
The MSC was developed by Christopher K. Germer, PhD, a leader in the integration of mindfulness, compassion, and psychotherapy, and Kristin Neff, PhD, a pioneering researcher in the field of self-compassion. (Center for Mindful Self-Compassion)

Course Details
-
MSC will be held weekly for 8 consecutive weeks. Classes are 2 hours long.
-
The retreat class will be held on Saturday, March 8, 8am-12pm EST, and will be 4 hours long.
-
MSC is an opportunity to explore how we habitually respond when difficulties arise in our lives and to learn tools to become a warm and caring person toward ourselves. Although MSC offers conceptual learning, it is designed to be more experiential than theoretical.
-
MSC is therapeutic, but it is not therapy. The emphasis of the program is on expanding emotional resources to meet everyday challenges.
-
MSC is not just a mindfulness training; it is a mindfulness-based compassion training in which the quality of warmth is emphasized more than mindfulness.
MSC offers: -
Online sessions once per week
-
Post-course supplementary material
-
