About the Session 

In this introductory workshop we will demonstrate tools and strategies to optimize mental performance and cultivate beneficial states of mind. Participants will practice meditation and mindfulness, and learn about how its practice can change the brain and overall well-being.


This workshop is appropriate for participants who want to learn more about meditation and mindfulness, including mental health professionals, who would like to its relevance in their professional practice. 

Learning Objectives 

  • Describe the optimal mental performance and beneficial states of mind

  • Explain fundamentals of mediation and practice formal and informal mindfulness 

CE Credit Guidelines 

  • APA: 3 CE Credits : HeartWell Institute is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education credits for psychologists. HeartWell Institute maintains responsibility for this program and content.

  • Discuss current research that connects meditation and mindfulness with brain health and overall well-being 

  • Recognize the benefits of integrating meditation and mindfulness in clinical practice 

  • NBCC ACEP: 3 credit hours: HeartWell Institute has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider ACEP No. 7058. Programs that do not qualify for CE credit are clearly identified. HeartWell Institute is solely responsible for all aspects of the program. 

  • NASW - MA Chapter: Application for social work continuing education credits has been submitted. Please contact us at theheartwellinstitute@gmail.com for the status of social work CE accreditation.

  • MA-DESE: The HeartWell Institute is an approved provider for Professional Development Points (PDPs) for educators. PDPs are awarded after a minimum of 10 hours of programming has been completed. Programs can be combined for this purpose.

About the Instructors

Dr. Bertha Elena Rojas is a clinical neuropsychologist and educator. She is the founder and CEO of Humanity Advanced, LLC, which provides consulting services and trainings to schools and organizations in the areas of Education Equity, Bilingual Education, Social-Emotional Learning, Parent Engagement and Cultural Competency.

Zayda Vallejo, M.Litt., is a Certified Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) instructor and has been teaching mindfulness interventions for professionals and for the general public in English and Spanish for more than 18 years.

Robert Lenhardt, LICSW, trained in the MBSR practicum at the UMass Center for Mindfulness in 2005, and regularly coaches his psychotherapy clients on mindfulness practices to alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Dr. Michael Cirillo is a board-certified clinical neuropsychologist who also has an active meditation and mindfulness practice and regularly utilizes mindfulness practices in his clinical work. He is a founding partner of Cornerstone Behavioral Health, a full-service mental health and assessment clinic located in Worcester, MA.
